About the institution

Independent research for a deeper understanding of society

The International Center for Social Research promotes sociological knowledge, scientific cooperation and international dialogue through research, education and scholarly publishing.

Who we are

A platform for sociological research and international cooperation

The International Center for Social Research (ICSR) is a non-profit international association established in 2016. It was founded to facilitate sociological research, teaching and communication among sociologists and other scientists, and to give sociology a stronger voice in international affairs.

Its mission is the development of sociological knowledge and social research. ICSR supports, conducts and facilitates social scientific research, stimulates instruction and discussion, and encourages cooperative relations among people engaged in the scientific study of society.

The Center operates as an independent research institution committed to scientific rigor, interdisciplinary exchange and the dissemination of knowledge for the public benefit.

Scientific research

Supporting theoretical, empirical and applied inquiry into contemporary social life.

Education and dialogue

Encouraging teaching, discussion and the circulation of sociological knowledge.

International cooperation

Building relationships among scholars, institutions and organizations across borders.

Our history

Founded in Rome with an international vocation

ICSR was established through the initiative of Emilia Lordi-Jantus de Sobremonte, a former staff member of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), as well as a founding member of the World Organization for International Relations (WOIR) in 1978.

The Center was also founded by Alejandro Gastón Jantus Lordi de Sobremonte, sociologist and professional journalist, whose academic and institutional work has focused on social research, communication, international relations and the development of independent scientific organizations.
